Losing 40 pounds

Seven years ago, I weighed in at 207 pounds. I had accumulated  51 pounds since leaving university. Being a creature of habit, I knew things wouldn't change immediately. What accumulated over 25 years would take some time and effort to dissipate!

Everything that I did was, well, everything that Get Moving suggests...
  • I started eating more veggies, lean meats and fruit. You know, a stir-fry instead of hamburger helper
  • I started an exercise program; walking with intervals of running. http://running.about.com/od/getstartedwithrunning/ht/getstarted.htm After a couple years I was running triathlons.
  • I sneak exercise into my daily work life, sitting on a theraband ball strengthens the stomach muscles, slip away to do a few pushups. (I don't think Governor D. would mind )
I would like to point out that the first 20 pounds melted away in a year, don;t despair. Now at 167 pounds, I have a few more pounds to lose and it remains a challenge. I'm up for it!

Teamwork Pays Off

Steven Fortier is walking during the day with his staff and in the evening with his dogs. Over the years Steve has had major trouble with his diabetes. Since the program he has been being very active which has helped him stablize some of his health issues. Check out his steps! Great job Steve!

Steve is a custodial supervisor in our area. In the afternoon each day he forms a walking group with his staff. Choedon, Dolma, Kunsang and Hon all take a long walk with him on most days. During the walks it gives them the chance to bond not only as coworkers but as individuals. Many thanks to Wellness Program for providing a program like this.
