Memorial Day Bike Ride- Beautiful Pictures
GET MOVING VERMONT! -  WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?  Beautiful Pictures

"Nine GMBC folks showed up to ride various versions of the Smugglers' Notch & Appalachian Gap ride, Memorial Day.  It was quite breezy and a tad cool at the summits.  Most people were smart enough to head back on Rte 2 after the Notch, but a few intrepid souls kept going south to do the Gap and check off another century ride.  A nice group of cyclists and a classic Vermont ride.

Preventing Osteoporosis
I hate any type of physical activity, except for walking on my treadmill or listening to my iPod and walking up and down my street in the summer.

I have not walked (other than life-walking) for about 21/2 weeks.

I plan to start again next week 3x a week for about 15 minutes, to build up again.

When I was walking those three weeks I felt great, my lower back didn't hurt.
I have osteoperosis, which has stabilized, but I saw my mother suffer from osteo too and I don't want to be there in my 70's.

Well, anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Winter Activity Idea
The Vt Trek was a lot of fun, looking forward to the Tropical now.  A little hint for those of us who have bird feeders. Squirrels make a mess and the ground gets a heavy layre, I have found RAKING the seeds to spread them out works as they are cleaned up faster, less waste and a NEW ACTIVITY to count for Winter.  dlh
Encouragement
Hello.  I am very pleased to learn of the website that encourages folks to "Get Moving."   I admire those taking the challenge and I encourage existing members to encourage others as well.  Pass the word!!!  With obesity topping the scale in this country, we all have to take responsibility for our health.  This program is a great way to chat with other members and test oneself.  As part of my exercise program,  I would like those to follow me in my next adventure to Costa Rica as I attempt to run my way from San Jose to the Osa Peninsula, a six day trek called the Coastal Challenge, with others runners/walkers.  I will have my ups and downs, as you all will as you continue with your challenges.  The website to track me is:

Good luck to all of you....you're all moving in the right direction!!!!  Deb Tirrito
New Life of Health
In April of 2008 I stepped on the scale and I weighed 315lbs. My farther died 10 years ago at 750lbs and when he was my age he was 360lbs. I didn't want to live that life. So I decided to do something about it. I went to see a Doctor named Pat Forgieone. He is a doctor that does lap band weight loss surgery. I met some great people and a wonderful nutionist named Ellen, and a PA named Debroah. This team of professional helped me understand about what I was doing and how to lose weight. I began to walk and walking turned into running. Now, almost a year later I am going to sign up for the Burlington City Marathon. I have lost 108lbs and am still losing. I feel great and have begun a new life of health. I have 3 great boys and have alot to live for.
Team Progress
I started my team to encourage my fellow TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) members to increase their daily activity.   I didn't get as many to join the team as I had hoped, but I think we did quite well.  The team managed to consistently stay in the top 10- and a couple of the team members told me they were making exercise more of a priority because they enjoyed seeing their progress on the map.  I am hoping they will continue with the next challenge and that we can recruit a few more team members.
Traveling
This weekend I am going to Los Angelos. I am staying at a hotel with an inground pool and an inside pool, so I hope to do some swimming.  If I  have time I hope to do some walking in the airports too.  Wish me luck!
Contributing to the team
I am a part time employee of RRMC and a very late starter to the contest, only began on October 4th.  I hope my small contributions help the overall team... an old shin injury/problem is the main  focus of my joining. A fun challenge, TY
Activity Idea
I love hiking with my dogs in the woods.  The leaf litter on the ground, the smells, the colors.  It renews my spirit and is so easy to incorporate into my busy life.
