Using the Count Steps Feature
To record your steps from a pedometer or your favourite routes, enter the number
of steps that you tracked that day in the Count Steps step counter and then click
the Add button. You can change the date by typing a new date or
clicking the calendar.
If you enter the wrong number of steps, you can delete them by re-entering the number with a leading minus sign and then pressing the Add button.
You must be logged in to use the Count Steps feature. If you are not logged in,
the Add button is disabled. If you are not registered, go to the Login screen for instructions on how to register.
Using the Count Activities Feature
To convert your activity into steps, select the activity from the drop down box,
enter the number of minutes that you performed that activity that day, then click
the Add button. You can change the activity date by typing a new
date or clicking the calendar.
If you enter the wrong number of minutes, you can remove them by re-entering the
number with a leading minus sign and then pressing the Add button.

in, the Add button is disabled. If you are not registered, go to
the Login screen for instructions on how to register.
Using the Activity Tracker map
The map has many features including the ability for you to record and save your own routes and view existing community routes. You can easily add the number of steps from routes to the steps counter.
Routes
If you are not using a pedometer or would like to calculate the steps and distance of your favorite routes, you can click your route points on the map and see your steps calculated as you go.
To create your own route
- Click on the New Route link in the Route Information box.
- Scroll the map to the starting location of your route. To learn more about scrolling
the map, see the Maneuvering the Map section below (The map starts at the address you have set in your Profile. If you have not specified an address, it will start at a central community location.)
- Click the beginning point on the map (a point bubble will appear).
- Move your mouse to the next turning point and click again.
- Continue clicking points until you have mapped your entire route and then click the Save Route link. (You must be logged in to see this option.)
- You can move the route information box off the map by holding the left mouse button
down on the blank space in the box and dragging it to any place on your screen where
it doesn�t interfere in creating your map.
- The system will prompt you to give your route a name. Once saved, your new route will be listed under the MY ROUTES
header, at the bottom right of the map.
If you accidentally click a wrong point, you can erase one or more legs of your route by clicking on the last correct point bubble and choosing the Clear to here option. Note: If
you do not see the pop-up window options, scroll your page up until it is visible.
To remove one of your routes:
- Under the MY ROUTES header, click on the trash can symbol next to the route that
you wish to delete. Next, click on OK in the pop up window that appears.
To view a community route:
- Click on a link under the PUBLIC ROUTES header, underneath the
map.
- Common public routes are listed but do not have a star icon. You can add the steps from these routes directly to your total by clicking the (add) link.
To view challenge routes:
- Click on a link under the CHALLENGES header underneath the map.
- For individual challenges, your progress is shown by a green arrow; if other user�s
progress is shown, it will be identified by a green hiker.
- On team challenges, your team�s progress is shown by a green arrow; other team�s
progress is shown by a group of hikers.
Maneuvering the Map
You can maneuver either the Activity Tracker map or any Challenge map to get a different
view or to see more or less detail.
You can scroll the map one of two ways:
- Click somewhere on the map, hold your mouse down and then move it up, down, left, or right.
- Click the scrolling arrow buttons at the top left of the map.
To zoom in and out:
- Click on the + button at the top left of the map; click multiple times to move in very close.
- Click on the - button at the top left of the map; click multiple times to move out to a world view.
To switch to a different perspective:
- To view the map in the standard mapping format, click on the Map button.
- To view the map using satellite images, click on the Satellite button. Satellite view displays the area by pictures taken from a satellite. Some
areas have better quality satellite pictures than others.
- To view the map using terrain images, click on the Terrain button.
Terrain view shows the map based on contour lines that indicate elevation.
- To view a combination of standard format and satellite, click on the Hybrid button.
Map icons:
Map icons provide information about the map. To activate an icon, simply click on
it and if more information is available, it will be displayed in a pop-up window.
- Public Routes icons on Activity Tracker may have information associated with them.
Click on the icon to see the information.
- Challenge Route icons include:
- Starting point
- Ending point
- Information markers
